This year we published two articles in peer-reviewed journals.
In the article Everyday organisational dilemmas and approaches when democratising philanthropy through trust-based philanthropy practices, published in the Voluntary Sector Review, we map the dilemmas when moving to trust-based philanthropy (TBP). With a team of international colleagues from academia and practice, we look at the promise and practical dilemmas of TBP, drawing on literature and examples from Denmark, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, the UK and the US, plus practice-based workshops with Danish grant-making staff and nonprofit leaders.
The second article addresses the issue of measuring nonprofit capacities, which is an urgent issue given limited data availability for testing key ideas empirically. How can data already collected by philanthropic organizations be used for academic research, so that insights can be shared beyond individual organizations? Together with our first Research Fellow Eline Crins, at the time working at Dutch foundation Kansfonds, we wrote Measuring Nonprofit Capacities in the Context of Unrestricted Funding: A Case Study on Nonprofits Supporting Homeless People in the Netherlands, which is now published in the Journal of Philanthropy.
